Facility: MENTAL HEALTH INPATIENT
Job Description: Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions, the incumbent will provide specialized psychiatric nursing care on a 12 bed Mental Health Unit, including all aspects of the nursing process to patients experiencing a broad range of psychiatric, social and medical problems. In addition, provides staff supervision and assumes periodic charge nurse responsibilities. Skill and duties include:

Comprehensive knowledge of mental health conditions, concurrent disorders, psychotropic medications, their uses, side effects and ability to provide patient education with a nursing lens.
Knowledge and application of treatment modalities: Mental Health Recovery Oriented treatments, CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing.
Implement the admission and discharge planning processes with patient, as part of an interdisciplinary team and incorporating family/supports involvement as part of care plans
Reports and accurately records patients behaviour, response to treatment, medication and all facts or related information to patients health care status.
Provides health teaching to patient and families for provision of safety; prevention/management of illness or its recurrence; restoration of individual to his/her optimum level of functioning.
Maintains current knowledge of Mental Health Act and complies with all requirements.
Excellent teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team based environment
Excellent communication and crisis management skills. Leading de-escalation efforts to prevent aggression and violence toward self or others.
