Description

The City of Moose Jaw is seeking to fill our Assistant Building Official position. Under the direction of the Director of Planning and Development Services, the Assistant Building Official performs various administrative and technical duties relating to the inspection of Class 1 building inspection construction and alterations, ensuring compliance with various building codes and related bylaws.

This position will perform the following duties:
-    Provide interpretations on applications for developments and determine their compliance with the Building Bylaw as related to the National Building Code for Class 1 buildings and other bylaws administered by the City
-    Review building plans and issue Class 1 building permits
-    Perform Class 1 building field inspections of construction work in progress to assure conformity with code and regulations
-    Issue correction orders, stop work orders, compliance orders and demolition orders as required
-    Enforce City bylaws and provincial/federal legislation
-    Provide administrative and technical support to Boards and Commissions as required, attending meetings

Qualified applicants will possess:
-    Class 1 Building Official license pursuant to the Construction Code Act
-    Valid Class 5 driver's license and personal vehicle available for work use
-    Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
-    Able to interpret engineering and architectural drawings and specifications with a strong knowledge of building code and related building regulations and procedures
-    Ability to work in poor weather conditions. Climb ladders, bend and crawl while doing inspections and work under pressure
-    Ability to accept responsibility, work with minimum supervision and work outside normal hours of work

Class 2 or Class 3 Building Official Licenses will also be considered. Additional salary commensurate with higher qualifications.
