Description

The Paramedic oversees the operations of the Safe Consumption Site located at 1516 20th St W. The Paramedic is required to provide care within the space, supporting people who use substances to do so in a safe environment with support.

-Conduct yourself in a manner that maintains and promotes a positive image for Prairie Harm Reduction and is in keeping with the policies, mission, goals, and philosophies of the organization
-Build relationships with people who use drugs in a non-judgemental manner
-Educate people who use substances on reducing harms
-Monitor people while they use substances to ensure that they are using as safely as possible
-Medically intervene during overdoses including, but is not limited to, administering naloxone, administering oxygen and performing CPR
-Ensure proper storage and disposal of compressed oxygen and biohazardous material
-Provide minor wound care
-Maintain SCS space in a safe and clean manner, that adheres to Covid-19 precautions
-Do a monthly inventory of SCS supplies, and provide the Director of Support Services with a list of supplies
-Ensure statistics are kept up to date on SCS clients
-Ensure the database gets backed up at the end of every shift
-Train people who access services on how to use and distribute Naloxone kits
-De-escalate situations as needed and promote a calm space in the reception area, Safe Consumption Site and Drop-In Centre
-Maintain a working knowledge of the legislation, protocols and scope of practice applicable to EMS practitioners within the province of Saskatchewan.
-Work collaboratively with community partners
