Description

The Horticulture Assistant position at the SFBLC works with the Agriculture Coordinators. They are responsible for assisting with day-to-day maintenance of the Garden Patch, including planting, harvesting, mulching, composting, and watering. You work toward a well-maintained garden; a collaborative and engaged work culture; and a productive source of fresh produce for our community.

Terms of Employment:
Seasonal Full Time (37.5 hours weekly from May 6th - August 30th
Wage: $18.87 per hour

Job Duties:
Food production tasks at the Garden Patch, including:
Manual labor related to sustainable food production such as garden planning, planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, composting, mulching, etc.;
Collecting accurate records on harvest weight, irrigation levels, and planting.
Site maintenance tasks, including:
Ensuring the Garden Patch is well maintained, clean, safe, organized, and welcoming for staff;
Site improvement projects such as spreading bark mulch or building raised beds;
Organizing and maintaining project supplies;
Ensuring garbage and recycling are properly sorted and disposed of.
Contribute to an empowering and inclusive environment where coworkers are treated with respect and dignity.
Other duties as required to contribute to the mission of the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre.

Work Environment:
Working outdoors in most weather conditions (rain, heat, cold).

Qualifications:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work 8 hour shift of manual labour.
Experience working in garden/farm setting an asset.
