Job Description: Accountable to the Manager, the Infection Control Practitioner is responsible for providing infection prevention and control related services within the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) integrated service areas by supporting implementation and maintenance of an effective Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) program, providing training and education related to IPAC and infectious diseases, and by consulting on matters related to IPAC as an expert resource. The incumbent will participate in quality improvement or research activities as needed within the SHA.
Required Qualifications: Education: Degree in Nursing or other relevant Health Sciences Degree (related to infection prevention and control) acceptable to the Employer Current Certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC) is an asset. Other: Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Drivers license (or equivalent). This is a designated field hours position.  Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Possesses knowledge and has job related experience in health care Works independently, is self-motivated and is self-directed while possessing the ability to work within a team Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate the important components of infection control with all levels of staff and patients Demonstrates effective leadership and management skills Possesses knowledge of how to identify, investigate and control of outbreaks of infectious diseases in the health care setting Possesses knowledge of, and is able to utilize, principles of program development and teaching Displays excellent verbal and written communication skills Possesses knowledge of epidemiological principles, statistics, microbiology and infectious disease Demonstrates a working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Power point.
