Description

The Ministry of Highways, Safety and Wellness Branch is seeking a highly motivated individual who is innovative and a strategic thinker to manage workplace health and safety. Reporting to the OHS Portfolio Manager, the OHS Field Practitioner is responsible for the development of the Ministry Safety Management System, risk and hazard assessment & control, reviewing/facilitating all incident investigations, work refusals, inspections, emergency response plan, return to work program management, safety assessment/audits, complaints and developing broad-based solutions to address them. You will actively participate in the research, design, development, and implementation of the strategic plan to address/manage workplace health and safety within the Ministry.

Our candidate of choice will have knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), WCB Legislation, Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Regulations (The Saskatchewan Employment Act, and the Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Regulations) and numerous other standards associated with OH&S. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills to be able to present information and respond to questions from stakeholders, managers, and employees.

Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be obtained through the completion of a related degree/diploma or working towards it to obtain in next 12 months or equivalent education or a combination of education and several as several years' (3 to 5) experience working in a safety professional role. The knowledge required for this position would typically be obtained through a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) or OHS-related certification from a recognized educational/certification institution.

Travel Required: Approx. 50%  70% of the time within the province.
