The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) is seeking a results-oriented, dynamic, and motivated individual for the position of Fire Base Supervisor at Lower Fishing Lake Protection Base.
This position is responsible for the organization and coordination of fire suppression tactical and strategic response in the forest protection area. Wildland fire pre-suppression activities include maintaining equipment and infrastructure, purchasing goods and services, fire response planning, public education, mitigating fire risks, and ensuring training is provided to employees to meet operational and safety requirements. Other assigned duties may include park and recreation site development and maintenance.
Typical duties include:
Plan and prepare forest protection area fire plans and assist in developing daily wildland fire suppression plans by assessing fire indices, ignition sources and values at risk.
Issue and monitor burn notifications and perform fire suppression activities within the Protection Area, in remote areas, and out of province/country as assigned.
Provide advice and work with local governments, municipalities and industry regarding fire risk assessment, risk management and development of fuel management plans.
Perform administrative functions related to ordering and maintaining food, equipment and commissary, crew scheduling and making purchases related to operating and maintaining the firebase.
Qualifications:
Possess and maintain a valid class 5 or greater drivers license.
Experience in large or multiple fire management in a supervisory role supplemented with extensive and progressive wildland fire training.
Good radio communication skills and good computer use skills would be considered assets.
