The Health and Wellness Centre offers a culturally focused and coordinated continuum of care to those
living with addiction and those living high risk lifestyles. The Muskeg Lake Cree Nation miyomacihowin Health Center supports and advances broad-based harm reduction strategies that are culturally relevant in a variety of treatment and care options.
Reporting to the Director of Health & Wellness, this position provides addiction outreach, prevention, intervention and follow-up services and supports positive mental wellness to improve the quality of life, in a culturally responsive and professional way. This position requires culturally appropriate and trauma-informed care for the member of MLCN. The Community Addictions Outreach Worker will have knowledge to ensure that extensive collaboration and networking with other community-based organizations and health and social systems happen.
DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES
Possess an effective understanding of Indigenous culture, spirituality and community life on the First Nation;
Establish and maintain contacts with community knowledge & language keepers to assist with the implementation of services and supports in the community;
Maintain a lifestyle that ensures the role is providing support and services to community members in a healthy manner;
Refer clients to other social programs or assist clients in locating and utilizing community resources including legal, medical, and financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, day care and other services;
Counsel clients living in the community of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, supervise their activities and assist in pretreatment and post treatment planning;
Implement life skills workshops, substance abuse treatment programs, behavior management programs, youth services programs and other community and social service programs under the supervision of social or health care professionals;
