The Branch Librarian, employed by the local library board, is responsible for the delivery of public library service to the community. All operational and administrative library duties are the responsibility of the Branch Librarian. Work methods are governed by established procedures, but the employee must be able to exercise independent judgment, initiative and work cooperatively with others. The Branch Librarian acts as secretary to the local board, and must be able to plan, schedule, train and supervise staff. He/she must demonstrate leadership skills, promote the library, and work effectively with the board and public.
Knowledge, abilities and skills required:
- Completion of Grade 12. Preference given to applicants with a secondary education and/or library experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to teach, supervise, delegate tasks and demonstrate leadership skills.
- Ability to work co-operatively and positively with board, staff, volunteers and patrons.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with respect to the affairs of the library.
- Ability to plan and execute library programs and events, and promote the library.
- Administrative duties to include budget preparedness, statistics and reports.
- Computer literacy and knowledge, and skills with tablets and cell phones is mandatory.
