Description

City of Moose Jaw is seeking to fill a temporary Planner 1 position which is responsible for Development Officer duties and general community and land use planning. This role is expected to end January 30, 2026 with the potential to be extended.

Some of the duties include:
-Review development permit, sign and business license applications for compliance
-Review and respond to development proposals involving various land use planning matters
-Respond to project and general inquiries and preparing correspondence to developers and the public regarding applications under review, the Zoning Bylaw, the Official Community Plan, provincial land use regulations, and municipal processes
-Assist in preparation, presentation and maintenance of plans, policies, bylaws and regulatory proposals
-Assist with administrative, technical and processing duties associated with subdivision development, rezoning and related applications and initiatives
-Conduct studies and projects related to land use policy and land development
-Provide professional and technical support to the department

Qualified applicants will possess:
-Degree in Regional Urban Planning or a directly related field
-Eligible for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Saskatchewan Professional Planners Institute
-Minimum 1 year experience in land use planning and conducting public meetings and facilitating working groups on planning, land development, zoning, and social issues
-Class 5 Drivers license and use of personal vehicle for work purposes
-Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
-Knowledge of the principles, standards and practices related to urban planning and land development
-Able to interpret and explain technical information, including zoning regulations, land use and building standards
-Proficient in reading and interpreting contract specifications, drawings and construction documents
