The Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan seeks an experienced archivist in our Appraisal, Acquisition, Legislation Compliance and Access Services (AAA) to ensure that both private and government records of continuing value are identified for permanent retention. The AAA Archivist is also responsible for advising and consulting with government institutions and the general public on various methods of accessing restricted and unprocessed records.
In this challenging and rewarding position, the Appraisal, Acquisition, Legislative Compliance and Access Archivist will be responsible for:
- Appraising, analyzing, and evaluating government and private records of all media types to determine whether they are of historical significance in documenting the history of Saskatchewan.
- Reviewing researcher requests for access to the Archives Permanent Collection, reviewing collections for access and privacy requirements, advising other archives staff on access issues and communicate decisions and policies to researchers.
- Participating in planning, development and implementation of Appraisal, Acquisition, Legislative Compliance and Access Services programs, policies, and procedures.
-Teamwork and collaboration with the AAA team to manage the handling and storage of archival records.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience with:
- The history of Western Canada and Saskatchewan, including the organization and administration of the Government of Saskatchewan.
- Interpretation, application and transfer of knowledge of applicable legislation and policy in Saskatchewan, including The Archives and Public Records Management Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, The Health Information Protection Act, etc.
- Historical and analytical research methodologies and past and current research trends.
