CORE FUNCTIONS: To conduct garden and yard work at the direction of the Horticultural and Special Projects Supervisor. Understands, agrees with the acts according to the principles, values and mandate of Harvest Community Inc.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Preparing the garden for planting
Planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting crops
Will be required to use a variety of garden tools including rakes, shovels, hoes, etc.
Responsible for the safe operation of farm equipment, such as weed whippers, lawn mowers, ATVs, water systems, etc. and make sure they remain in good working order and are sufficiently cleaned after use
Report maintenance required on equipment
May be required to work alongside other program staff and participants to complete tasks
Clean and maintain facilities
Perform general labor and yard maintenance duties as directed
Ensure safety standards are followed
May be required to support light-industrial production if outdoor work is not available due to severe weather
ABILITIES & SKILLS:
Must be able to take direction, prioritize tasks, and work independently
Must be able to kneel, squat, and stand for long periods of time
Previous experience working on a farm, and knowledge of organic horticultural practices an asset
Able to lift 50lbs
Able to work in all weather conditions
Hours of work are 8am-4pm Monday to Friday
Must be available for work beginning May 19 until the end of August
Strong communication and organizational skills
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to get to and from the farm daily
Comfortable working with and around animals including chickens and dogs
Physical stamina
Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required including steel toe shoes/boots, gloves, safety glasses, ear protection
