Description

The Communications Branch of the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture is seeking an experienced communications manager to lead a team in developing and executing communication strategies targeted to the agricultural industry.

Reporting to the communications director, you will supervise a team of five responsible for managing the ministrys communications channels  including media relations, speeches at events, web content on Saskatchewan.ca, dedicated social media channels, publications and trade show support.

You will work with the communications team and branch clients to develop annual operational plans and ensure the tactics in those plans are executed in a timely and effective manner.

You also will be responsible for leading strategic communications on trade mission planning and crisis management. You will collaborate with the Senior Media Relations Consultant on media relations strategies. To qualify for this position, you must have knowledge and experience in strategic communications, including media relations, digital and social content, and issues management. Superior verbal and written communications skills, interpersonal skills and the capacity to excel in high pressure situations are also necessary. In addition, excellent organizational and time management skills, along with the proven ability to motivate, coach and manage performance of professional communication staff are required.

Typically, the skills and knowledge for this position will have been gained through a university degree in journalism, communications, or related field of study, combined with at least three years of experience in corporate communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in leading a communications team will be considered an asset.
