Be responsible for the complete care of the hogs in your assigned area. Management promotes a teamwork environment, and the successful applicant will be expected to work and become familiar in all areas of the production unit and will at some point become responsible for specialized jobs suitable to their skills and training. Familiarization of all areas is also necessary for carrying out duties when working on weekend coverage.
-Ensuring herd health, recognize and treat certain livestock health problems
-Ensuring a clean environment, operating a pressure washer and assist in maintaining the production units standards for cleanliness and sanitation.
-Vaccinating, assisting farrowing, sow condition scoring, weighing, backfat ultrasound probes and all other related duties for the sow herd.
-Piglet care-Processing newborn litters, tail docking, cross-fostering when necessary, tagging, iron shots, treating sick or injured piglets, etc.
-Daily record-keeping-because this unit produces breeding stock, attention to accurate and complete records is very important. Breeding, farrowing, weaning, mortality, pig movement and treatment details are all very important and attention to details in these areas is necessary.
-Following biosecurity protocols.
Ensure all feed systems are in working order and report any malfunctions to maintenance. Ensure all waterers are in working order and that all pigs have access to water
-Assist in pig movement from one area to another within production unit
