Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Librarian assists with a wide variety of public library routines under the direction of the
Branch Librarian, working with minimal supervision. This includes a thorough knowledge of library
policies and procedures. Work methods are governed by established procedures, but the Assistant
Librarian must be able to exercise independent judgment, initiative, and work cooperatively with
others. Accuracy is essential. Must be able to plan and supervise staff in the absence of the Branch
Librarian, be precise in duties and work effectively with the board and public.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Librarian duties include assisting in the implementation of all regional and local policies
and procedures, helping achieve the efficient operation of the library as established in the Wapiti
Branch Manual. This includes manual and automated circulation, interlibrary loan services, overdue
procedures, and mail. Assists in preparing accurate minutes, statistics, and reports, maintains manual
and automated records, assists with library programs and special events, plus actively promotes the
library through regular contact with community groups, schools, and local councils. Participates in staff
training, and performs any other duties assigned by the Branch Librarian.
