Description

Pelican Lake First Nation is looking for an SST-Student Services Teacher.
Reports to: Principal/Director of Education
Duties & Responsibilities:
Liaise with other classroom teachers, school psychologists, learning disabilities specialists, speech/hearing specialists, and social workers to provide an integrated plan for developing the capacities of their students.
Plan and prepare courses and subjects in accordance with policy and curriculum
Incorporate First Nations curriculum and ways of learning into all programs
Set learning goals for each student, assess their progress, and record their evaluations.
Update parents on the progress of their students and enlist parental support with behavior control and home activities designed to supplement their classroom lessons.
Supervise and train teaching assistants
Develop academic and social/life skills programming for students Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), learning disabilities, and other special needs in a flexible and supportive learning environment.
Teaching a small group of special needs students both inside and outside of the classroom
Preparation of lesson plans and conducting assessments
Incorporating social and life skills into daily programming
Reading and interpreting psycho-educational reports and writing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
Experience with Smartboards and adaptive technology for iPads and laptops
Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with the Education Director, Principal, teachers, and parents of students.
Participation in staff meetings, supervisory duties, after school extra-curricular activities
Participate in community programs that link the school to the larger community
Draft proposals for specialized education
Other duties as required
