Description

Responsible for reviewing and processing building permit applications, ensuring that the design of proposed construction meets the requirements of applicable regulations.  Inspect ongoing construction for compliance with relevant regulations, takes necessary action to ensure all deficiencies and/or infractions are corrected.  Issue business licenses and development permits in accordance with applicable regulations and provides bylaw enforcement for all property related matters.
Qualifications:
    Considerable knowledge of the Saskatchewan Building, Plumbing and Fire Codes, National Fire Protection Association Standards, relevant federal, provincial and municipal statutes, regulations, and bylaws.  
    Considerable knowledge of building construction methods and materials.
    Basic computer skills with Municipal computer programs and with Microsoft Office programs.
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    Ability to check plans and specifications and inspect ongoing construction of all complexities to ensure compliance with the Building, Plumbing and Fire codes, City Building and Zoning Bylaws, and National Fire Protection Association Standards.
    Ability to read and interpret municipal bylaws and apply the regulations to the situation at hand.  
    Ability to use tact and discretion when settling requests, complaints, or clarifying information.
  Requirements:
    Possession of an Interprovincial Trades Qualification in Carpentry, Plumbing, or a comparable equivalent, or a diploma from a recognized technical institute in Building Technology.
    Successful completion of the Saskatchewan Building Officials Association Level 1 building certification (must be completed within the first year of employment).    
    A minimum of two-years building design and construction experience.
    Possession of Valid Class 5 drivers License.  
    Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
