The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for providing agriculture programming and extension in the province of Saskatchewan. It helps the agriculture industry manage risk and enable a globally competitive, thriving and sustainable agriculture and food sector by supporting farmers, ranchers and agri-businesses.
The Regional Services Branch within the Ministry of Agriculture has a dynamic opportunity for a highly motivated leader with excellent communication skills to join their Crops Extension Specialist team.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced agrologist who has in-depth knowledge of crops, soils, pest management and other topics relevant to crop production in Saskatchewan, and who is:
A leader in the delivery of client service;
An independent worker who also has the ability to work in a dynamic team of specialists;
An exceptional communicator who is able to strategically interpret and transfer relevant information to producers, industry and colleagues;
Organized and able to independently prioritize and meet deadlines;
A strong interpersonal leader with demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, technical specialists and industry clients; and,
Able to identify, analyze and develop viable options, explanations and solutions to complex agricultural production problems.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through a degree in agriculture with a major in agronomy, soil or plant science combined with extensive experience in crop production. A Professional Agrologist designation or eligibility to obtain designation with the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists is required, as defined by The Agrologists Act.
A valid class 5 drivers license is required.
