Description

The Prevention Services Director is responsible for supervising department staff and coordinating prevention services and activities that strive to maintain family unity. Reports to the Director of Operations and/or Band Council. Responsible for coordinating prevention services through case management planning. Develops and implement plans within program guidelines and provide referrals, support, guidance and problem solving with families to address issues related to family functioning and mitigate the risk to children. Assess the success of the intervention and determine new goals and follow up. The goal of the program is to increase family capacity and prevent children going into care. Support, participate in, and provide leadership and advocacy in community planning process regarding the ongoing development of services to children and families. Knowledgeable of component variables in child/community development and be able to formulate/document family assessment and case planning. The Prevention Services Manager would normally attain the required knowledge, skills and attitudes through completion of a Masters of Social Work or a Bachelor Degree in Social Work or Indigenous Social Work combined with a minimum of 5 years of experience working with at risk children and families; providing case management services in the home. Ability to develop treatment service plans. Ability to speak and understand Nakoda language is an asset. Experience developing relationships with schools, medical providers, mental health programs, substance abuse programs, domestic violence programs, family shelters, community partners, and Ministry of Social Service agency is a must. Ability to form engaging and therapeutic relationships with children and families; clinical interviewing skills a must. Ability to provide on-call coverage; flexible schedule with evenings as needed to service working families. MS office Skills required. No open/active Protection/Prevention Case with CFS.
