Description

The Flying Dust First Nation Housing Department is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Lead Hand Carpenter to support housing services under the supervision of the Housing Manager. Housing is vital to community well-being, supporting both individual rights and long-term homeownership responsibility. Reporting directly to the Housing Manager, the Lead Hand Carpenter will play a key leadership role within the Housing Department. This position involves working collaboratively with other departments and supporting a team-oriented approach to construction and maintenance. The successful candidate will bring strong carpentry skills, a commitment to quality workmanship, and the ability to guide and support fellow workers in achieving housing goals for the community.
Duties included but are not limited to:
    Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
    Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
    Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
    Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
    Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware
    Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures
    Supervise apprentices and other construction workers
    May prepare cost estimates for clients.
