Description

Individuals employed as a Child Minder Team Member are responsible for providing nurturing care and programming to children residing in a YWCA shelter with their mothers. The person in the role works with their team to assist with providing care and activities for children of all ages.    
The primary focus of this position will be working directly with resident children in a supportive capacity, engaging them in activities while their mother may or may not be in the facility. The Child Minder Team Member position will be a positive role model and sensitive to the needs of diverse groups of children.  

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
PROGRAMMING
Develop and implement activities, which are developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy
HEALTH AND SAFETY REGULATIONS
It is the responsibility of the Child Minder Team Member to ensure a safe and healthy environment is maintained
COMMUNICATION
The Child Minder Team Member develops positive, open communication with the children and their caregivers
ADMINISTRATION
This position must ensure the necessary administrative tasks are completed to meet the requirement policies and practices

Qualifications:
Must enjoy spending time with children of all ages
Experience working with children in a group setting
Ability to work with multiple children of different ages at one time
Interest in reading, literacy development, arts and crafts
Interest and ability to participate in varied physical activities
Education and/or training in child development is an asset
Experience working with children who have experienced trauma, poverty, or homelessness is an asset
Cross cultural sensitivity and knowledge of diversity
Be able to obtain a Criminal Records Check
Have valid CPR Level C and First Aid
