Reporting to the Deputy Fire Chief and working within a team environment, the Career Firefighter responds to emergencies, provides fire suppression services, supports rescue services, and maintains fire related facilities and equipment within the City of Weyburn and surrounding Rural Municipalities. The incumbent participates in community outreach and special activities to educate and inform the public on general safety and fire safety. The incumbent performs arduous physical and high-risk work, requiring appropriate use of equipment and adherence to operating procedures and safety standards.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION (Include Professional Licensing or Certifications Required)
Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
NFPA 1072: Hazardous Materials Operations.
NFPA 1001: Firefighter Level II.
Standard First Aid with CPR Level C (or higher).
Valid Class 3A drivers license (Province of Saskatchewan) in good standing.
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector (required and must be maintained).
Certifications Considered Assets:
NFPA 1041: Fire Service Instructor.
NFPA 1021: Fire Officer.
NFPA 1031: Fire Inspector.
Additional Requirements:
Must be able to meet and maintain the physical fitness standards necessary to safely and effectively perform the duties of a firefighter.
Ability to work in high-stress, physically demanding, and hazardous environments.
Availability for shift work, including weekends, nights, and holidays, as operationally required.
EXPERIENCE
Previous experience as a firefighter with a strong understanding of department apparatus.
Previous experience in work or volunteer capacity requiring teamwork, communication, and decision making in a fast past environment is an asset.
