GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Cancer Registry Team Lead of the Cancer Registry is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the coding and clerical staff within the Registry department at each geographic location.
The Cancer Registry Team Lead is responsible for the abstracting, interpreting, coding and staging of cancer incidence, mortality and related cancer data including patient registration, examination, diagnosis, and treatment information.
The Cancer Registry is a population database containing information on every case of cancer or reportable disease diagnosed in Saskatchewan residents as well as residents of other provinces receiving treatment in Saskatchewan. The registry maintains data which is vital to support the evaluation and success of our prevention and early detection programs as well as our treatment facilities. The data is also used for forecasting the needs of the Agency.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Diploma in Health Information Management and/or Bachelor degree in Health Information Technology
- Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) designation- candidates that do not have this credential at the time of hire will be given two (2) years to obtain it
Experience:
- One (1) year cancer registry coding and staging experience as a Cancer Registrar II (a combination of Cancer Registrar I and II experience is considered equivalent with a minimum of 6 months as a Cancer Registrar II)
