Description

The Light & Power Division of the City of Swift Current is looking for a qualified Journeyperson Powerline Technician to join our team. Under the supervision of the Director of Light & Power, this position is responsible for service, maintenance and repair of most aspects of the utility operation including overhead and underground distribution systems, street light systems, traffic control systems, metering, transformation, substations and associated switchgear devices.

The City of Swift Current Light & Power municipal electric utility serves 9,000 industrial, commercial and residential customers. Light & Power also provides street and traffic lighting service for the City of Swift Currents 17,000 residents.

Key responsibilities include:
- Service and maintain the distribution system as required or by instruction from the Director of Light & Power and/or Technical Superintendent.
- Maintain and repair overhead and underground 5KV and 25KV distribution lines, secondary lines and street light circuits.
- Perform 138KV transmission and 25KV distribution switching or sectionalizing as directed.
- Attend all trouble calls, taking whatever action is necessary to restore service as soon as possible.
- Carry out load and voltage checks by clip-on ammeters, maximeters and recording instruments.
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams in relation to standard single phase and three phase transformer connections, street light controls, switches and relays, single and three phase metering, metering equipment, current and potential transformers.
- Connect and disconnect customer meters, record readings, meter data, etc.
- Follow up on customer complaints and inquiries.
- Perform work on dead or energized overhead & underground 5KV and 25KV secondary lines, using rubber gloves, hot line tools and other protective equipment as required.
- Be available for Standby as required.
