TOWN OF BALCARRES
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
PUBLIC WORKS LABORER
FULL-TIME POSITION

Wage: $25/hr or based on experience
Start Date: Immediately

The Town of Balcarres invites applicants for the position of Public Works Laborer, available immediately. This full-time permanent position will assist the public works team in providing services to the Town of 600+ residents for transportation, utility distribution, infrastructure maintenance, and seasonal employees during assigned hours.

Some of your tasks might include:
    Manual labor, mostly outdoors
    Street maintenance, including but not limited to gravelling, grading, patching, crack sealing, painting street lines, hydrants, and curbs, oiling, snow removal, sanding, sweeping streets, and de-icing walks
    Traffic Control, including but not limited to the maintenance of street signs, traffic control signs and traffic signals
    Drainage, including but on limited to clearing debris and blockages from catch basins, and removing weeds and debris from ditches.
    Maintain sewage lagoon, pumphouse and lift stations in the sewage system.
    Maintain curb stops, valves and fire hydrants in co-operation with the Fire Department and Water Treatment Plant
    Sidewalk repairs
    Park lot and Town yard maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Class 5 Drivers License or above
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience operating powered mobile equipment
Criminal Record check and driving abstract will be required

Preference will be given to applicants with:
Certification in Water Treatment and Distribution, Wastewater Collection and Treatment (or willingness to become certified)
Certification on heavy equipment an asset
Confined space training, ground disturbance training
Certification in Power Mobile Equipment would be as asset
Pesticide Application License (or willingness to become licensed)
Local residency or willingness to relocate
Candidates will have good public relations and communication skills
