The Inter-Provincial Family Advocate will provide a holistic approach to the wellness of the child, the family, and the community, in the form of Advocacy and support for parents and children in the Child Welfare System. The holistic approach is based on First Nation law, beliefs and practices, the guidance and involvement of Elders and the support of family and community members.
-Working in conjunction with the community programs and services and YTCCFS Inc., this individual must possess the ability to assess and identify at risk families and the ability to refer and engage the appropriate resources.
-Ability to use Professional Judgement, Problem Solving and Critical thinking.
-The Inter-Provincial Family Advocate must have the ability to understand the impacts of colonialism on First Nations peoples, Indian Residential Schools, intergenerational trauma and how these factors impact individuals and families and influence the child welfare system in First Nation communities.
-The Inter-Provincial Family Advocate must have the ability to have good written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking and strong advocacy skills.
-The Inter-Provincial Family Advocate understands the complexity and multi-dimensional nature of many social problems affecting children and families (child abuse, maltreatment/abuse, etc.).
Knowledge of a First Nations language is considered an asset.
-Knowledge of the Anishinabek, Nehiyew, Nakota, Dakota and Lakota and the political and social objectives of the YTL-YTCCFS Inc. member First Nations.
-Possess a valid drivers license and possess a reliable vehicle.
-Must be willing to upgrade skills when time and funding permits.
-Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
Bachelor of Social Work (BSW or BISW) OR
Four (4) year University undergraduate degree in a related discipline and demonstrated direct child protection services experience OR
Certificate/Diploma in related discipline and Child Protection experience.
