The City of Moose Jaw is seeking to fill the position of General Utility Person. Under the direction of the Utilities Supervisor Environmental Services, they follow the landfill operations plan, performs maintenance and repair activities regarding the landfill, diversion areas and stockpile yards and will be required to investigate, rectify and respond to public concerns.
This position will perform the following duties:
- Follow and adhere to the Permit to Operate waste disposal grounds
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs
- Direct and supervise other employees who may be assigned as helpers
- Assist in training of other employees
- Follow and adhere to all aspect of the Landfill Operations Plan and the Landfill Emergency Response Plan
- Assist in weigh scale operations
- Perform within limits the duties of the Crew Lead Environmental Services
- Assist with planning, coordinating, organizing and supervising the activities of solid waste collection disposal, diversion programs and stockpile operations
- Assist consultants and contractors on various projects
- Operate various equipment (landfill compactor, dozer, skidsteer, front end loader etc.) and sanitation trucks (automated, manual) as required
- Follow rules and regulations set out by Provincial OH&S and the City of Moose Jaw OH&S manual
- Available to work weekends and shift work as required
Qualified candidates will have:
- Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) Course
- Valid Class 3A
- A minimum of two (2) years recent experience in solid waste operations (landfill and/or collection) within Public Works & Utilities
