Note: Successful Candidates who commence employment prior to the Deputy Sheriff Recruit Course will be compensated at a training rate of pay. Upon commencement of the Course, your salary will be reviewed and adjusted to reflect the fully certified Level 8 Deputy Sheriff wage.
Deputy Sheriffs are responsible for the safe and timely transportation of persons to and from court locations across the province (e.g., correctional centers, RCMP detachments, municipal police agencies, etc.). They are also responsible for ensuring documents are accurate for persons being released and/or held in custody and information is kept confidential at all times.
Prior to being hired as a Deputy Sheriff, a candidate will be required to:
Produce a valid certificate in Standard First Aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Level C.
Produce a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver's license.
Produce a drivers abstract obtained within the previous three months which demonstrates a safe and responsible driving record.
Successfully pass the Sheriff Officer Physical Abilities Test (SOPAT) with an elapsed time of six (6) minutes or less.
Have a satisfactory psychological assessment based on the Minnesota Multi-phasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2).
The successful candidate will be required to obtain enhanced fingerprint clearance. This check is a more in-depth level of clearance than a normal criminal record check.
Once hired, successful candidates will be required to attend and successfully pass a mandatory Deputy Sheriff Recruit Course (DSRC), including becoming provincially certified to carry a firearm and completing Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) and Defensive Tactics. Training is approximately eight weeks (Monday to Friday) and will take place in Regina.
