Reporting to the Client Services Supervisor, the successful candidate will carry out clerical responsibilities in the Reference and Circulation services of the library and provide circulation services to primary clients of the library including MLAs and their staff, Officers of the Legislative Assembly, the public service and public.
Primary responsibilities include:
Shelves books, government documents, microforms, and serials in the main Library using several classifications and shelving systems; checks for missing items.
Performs library circulation activities such as: checking materials in and out of the Library using the library software system; processing holds, recalls; registering new borrowers; maintaining statistics.
Helps clients use the photocopiers, microform readers, and public computers.
Prepare files and items for Information Files (vertical files); files updates to a variety of loose-leaf services.
As an ideal candidate, you will have one to three years of clerical experience, excellent knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and email applications; good time management and attention to detail. You will have the ability to maintain confidential information and to deal with people tactfully at all times. You will need to handle physical work, lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 10 kg (22 lbs.) of weight; the work may involve reaching, bending, and working on a ladder. Knowledge of library classification and filing systems used to sort and shelve materials as well as a comprehension of bibliographic form would be an asset.
