THE POSITION
The Head Start Program Cook is responsible for all aspects of the nutrition program ? menu planning, shopping, food preparation, food storge and maintaining a safe, clean kitchen. Other cleaning duties for the program will be assigned as required.
REPORT TO
Daycare/ Coordinator and the Head Start Coordinator
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
? Knowledge of the nutritional requirements of young children and adults.
? Understands and follows food regulations, policies and procedures, and safety rules/practices.
? Ability to use traditional First Nation teachings about food to support programming for children and families, would be an asset.
? Presents self as a professional who demonstrates integrity, competence, accountability, openness to learning, and leadership.
? Demonstrates flexibility through the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
RESPONSIBILITIES
? Daily preparation of nutritious snacks and lunch and following the follow the Canada/Indigenous Food Guide.
? Clients range from 40 children ages 3 and 6.
? Ensure to know your clients of likes, dislikes, and food allergies.
? Collaborate with the Day Care and Head Strat Coordinator:
1. to create monthly schedule for preparing of meals and snack for the parents/caregivers.
2. Prepare the grocery list as per the monthly food schedule.
3. Prepare freezer meal(s) in an event when the cook needs to be absent.
4. Ensure the delivery time of the meals are consistent.
? May be required to pick-up of groceries and supplies.
? Ensure the kitchen area, all equipment, and food storage areas are clean and sanitized.
