The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture is seeking a highly motivated, results oriented individual to provide leadership and direction for the development of Saskatchewans oilseed crops industry including canola, flax, mustard, sunflower and other new or specialty oilseed crops.
As a key member of the Crops and Irrigation Branch team, you will provide provincial specialist services to oilseed crop producers, producer groups, other government and industry specialists and senior government officials, including technical support and advice to ensure informed policy and programming decisions.
You will help develop the oilseed crops industry through the identification and evaluation of opportunities for production, marketing and processing. You will represent the Ministry at the provincial, national and international levels; provide information in various forms, including the development of technology transfer resources; and work closely with industry and government groups in strategic development and implementation.
Knowledge of crop production in Canada, specifically Western Canada, is critical to this position, including the principles of agronomy, pest management, economics and processing related to oilseeds. You will also bring knowledge of relevant environmental, domestic and international issues relevant to the position, as well as a basic knowledge of the acts and regulations pertaining to oilseed marketing, handling and registration.
The knowledge and experience required for this position is typically obtained through the completion of a Master of Science in a discipline related to crop science supplemented with several years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of academic training and related experience. As the successful candidate, you must also be eligible for membership with the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists.
