Description

The City of Swift Current is inviting applications for a temporary, full-time position of Parks Maintainer in the Community Services Division.  This is a 8-month term that will begin in September and end on April 30, 2026.

Under the direction of the Parks Superintendent, this position performs maintenance of city parks and greenspaces, cemeteries, playground equipment, sports field grounds and related city properties. This includes mowing, string trimming, top dressing, aerating, and fertilizing turf, along with application of herbicides. Other duties will include the construction, maintenance, and refinishing of parks furniture and opening and closing interments in cemeteries. During the winter months you will be required to operate and maintain the outdoor ice rinks on a split shift.    

Required Qualifications
    Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent).
    A valid Saskatchewan driver's license.
    A drivers abstract (must be provided annually).
    Completion of Respect Certification and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check will be required upon hire.
    Power Mobile Equipment Training.
    OH&S Level 1.
    Ground Disturbance.
    Able to operate small gas engines - powered equipment (e.g. lawn mowers, rototillers, string trimmers, chainsaws, etc.).
    The ability to lift 50 lbs.
    Able to perform outside physical labour.
    Work successfully with minimal direct supervision.
    Be punctual and have good time management.
    Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.

Proof of certification will be required.

Desirable Qualifications
    Previous experience in the operation of utility tractors (20 - 130 hp).
    Current Pesticide Applicators License or willingness to obtain.
    Excavator operation.
    Previous experience in cemetery operations.
    Occupational Health and Safety training
    Previous experience in parks maintenance, irrigation, & landscaping.
    Mechanical aptitude and experience in maintaining small gas engines.
    Ability to read plans and blueprints.
