Reporting to the Museum Operations Manager, the Visitor Service Representative works cooperatively with all members of the visitor services team to create a positive museum experience that includes a welcoming museum atmosphere, providing exceptional reception and gift shop services, and assisting with Museum programs and rentals as requested.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, ensuring a welcoming, informative, and safe experience
Provide information about museum exhibits, events, memberships, rentals, and local attractions
Address visitor questions, concerns, and complaints with professionalism and care
Promote and sell museum memberships, admissions, and program offerings
Perform daily opening and closing procedures for both the visitor services desk and gift shop
Process transactions accurately through the point-of-sale (POS) system, including admissions, retail, donations, and rentals
Maintain and restock the gift shop, ensuring a clean, organized, and visually appealing retail space
Support inventory, merchandising, displays, and the annual inventory count
Maintain accurate attendance, sales, and visitor records
Assist with administrative tasks, supply tracking, and the training of casual or seasonal staff
Qualifications:
Experience in retail sales, customer service, museum or gallery setting is an asset
Self-motivated and able to work independently
Willing to work weekends & evenings
Have superb organizational skills
Knowledge and experience in an office environment is an asset.
