Description

Waterhen Lake First Nation is seeking two Parent Mentors to provide culturally grounded prevention-focused support to parents, assisting with the implementation of Prevention Worker case plans for clients. The Parent Mentors will help strengthen family well-being and build safe, nurturing home environments by fostering essential life and parenting skills and offering practical assistance such as in-home visits, budgeting support, and connection to community resources. Serving as positive role models within the community, the Parent Mentors will support families on a caseload basis, emphasizing traditional knowledge, cultural practices, and family-centered approaches to healthy parenting.
Responsibilities:
    Support families on Prevention Worker caseloads by helping implement case plans.
    Assist parents with everyday challenges, offering knowledge and encouragement to help them manage their households effectively.
    Visit families in their homes, offering hands-on help with budgeting, parenting techniques, and accessing community resources.
    Teach and model positive parenting practices to help parents develop strong, healthy relationships with their children, providing emotional support when needed.
    Provide understanding and honest feedback.
    Maintain tracking and documentation of mentoring activities and phone calls.
    Respect and value the information shared by families.
Knowledge and Experience:
    Grade 12 Education required. Post-secondary education and/or experience in human services field is an asset
    Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and land-based practices.
    Maturity and stability; demonstrate and practice a healthy lifestyle
    Excellent written, oral communication and public speaking skills.
    Valid Class 5 Drivers License and access to reliable transportation.
    First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
    Knowledge of Waterhen Lake First Nation community resources, culture, and services is an asset.
