Description

Waterhen Lake First Nation is seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and dedicated Youth Mentor to provide culturally grounded support and activities to youth in the community. This role supports the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of children and youth as well as contributing to their growth, resilience and leadership development. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in our community and who can foster positive relationships with the youth and their families.  
Key Responsibilities:
    Provide one-on-one support with children and youth, guiding them in their life challenges and helping them to develop resilience
    Encourage respectful behavior, cooperation, good manners, and communication and essential life skills among youth and children.
    Model behaviour with life skills and daily routines ensuring safety and encouraging independence.  
    Design and facilitate age-appropriate recreational and educational activities that support cognitive, motor, and social development.
    Identify and manage challenging behaviors using positive reinforcement and effective strategies.
    Incorporate Indigenous traditions, teachings, and land-based practices into youth activities and mentoring.
Knowledge and Experience:
    Grade 12 Education required.
    Experience working with children or youth in a caregiving, mentoring, or educational setting is preferred.
    Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
    Ability to remain flexible, patient, and empathetic.
    Experience in behavior management and child development practices.
    Cooking skills and experience with meal preparation are considered an asset.
    Familiarity with the impacts of intergenerational trauma and the importance of cultural connection in healing and resilience building.
    Valid Class 5 Drivers License and access to reliable transportation.
    First Aid/CPR certification
    Knowledge of Waterhen Lake First Nation community resources
