Kahkewistahaw First Nation is seeking a culturally sensitive and experienced Parent Coordinator to bridge communication between schools, families, and theKahkewistahaw First Nations. This role prioritizes fostering trust, advocating for Indigenous families, and integrating cultural practices into school-parent partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding ofFirst Nations traditions, colonial legacies, and community-based solutions, alongside strong organizational and conflict-resolution skills.
REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
1. Degree in Education, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, or related field (or equivalent lived experience).
2. 3+ years working withFirst Nations communities, preferably in education or family support.
3. Knowledge ofCree language/cultureand colonial impacts on Indigenous families.
4. Familiarity withJordans Principle, Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action, and Indigenous child welfare systems.
5. Conflict resolution, active listening, and trauma-informed practices.
6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual communication tools.
7. Valid drivers license (travel to remote areas may be required).
8. Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector screening.
9. Certification in Indigenous community development or restorative justice.
10. Compassionate and empathetic, with a commitment to supporting families through challenges.
11. Strong organizational and time-management skills, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
12. Creative problem-solving abilities to address the unique needs of families in various circumstances.
