Position Summary
Under general supervision, the TECH I Engineering supports the Environmental Department by performing environmental inspections, assisting with data collection, participating in basic sampling programs, and helping maintain accurate environmental records. This position contributes to annual environmental reporting and supports other departments when time permits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform weekly environmental inspections, including containment areas, tanks, waste areas, recycling stations, lagoons, sludge pits, and related infrastructure.
Assist with groundwater, surface water, lagoon, sludge pit, and hygienic water sampling, as well as piezometer measurements, with guidance from Environmental Leads.
Record, organize, and update environmental data including sampling results, inspection findings, air monitoring information, and waste tracking.
Assist with documenting minor spills.
Support AutoCAD map creation and updates for annual reports, plans, and environmental submissions.
Assist Environmental Leads in gathering and preparing information for annual regulatory reports and internal reporting.
Support air quality monitoring by checking equipment status, noting downtime, and recording complaints.
Assist with waste management tracking such as scrap metal, waste oil, hazardous waste, domestic waste, and recycling.
Support field activities such as soil/vegetation surveys, bird sweeps, heritage assessments, and other checks as required.
Assist with reclamation tracking and activities such as seeding, spraying, and leveling.
Perform related duties as required.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED.
Post-secondary diploma in Mining Engineering Technology, Environmental Technology, Environmental Science, or related field.
Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
