The Role
The mine geology department at Cigar Lake is seeking a motivated and ambitious individual to join our team. In this position, the successful candidate will be reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist. Students will have the opportunity to learn in a world-class environment, experiencing the unique challenges of a site that has become known for its innovative character.
In this role, you will:
-Ensure acquisition and management of diamond drill core logging, record data into the database, and verify the accurate selection and shipment of core samples;
-Provide oversight for underground tunneling activities, including input on development and ground conditions, and ensuring that prints are followed;
-Maintain good communication with miners and members of the engineering and geology departments;
-Be responsible for recording and reporting New Austrian tunneling method activity, underground mapping of development headings, computerized data management, data quality assurance/quality control, and radiometric probing.
Required:
-Entering your third or fourth year, or enrolling in a masters program, in geology or geological engineering;
-Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent computer skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment;
-Ability and willingness to perform manual labour, including heavy lifting, as required for this position;
-Valid class 5 drivers license;
-Safety-oriented work attitude;
-Work a rotational schedule, including night shift, and commute to site by aircraft;
-You must be returning to school for the academic semester following your work term with Cameco.
Recommended:
-Previous experience with exploration or in a mine geology work environment;
-Experience working underground;
-Experience with core logging;
-Knowledge of mining software (Vulcan, acQuire);
-Knowledge of Athabasca Basin uranium ore characteristics.
