Description

The Ministry of Social Services, Income Assistance Service Delivery Division is seeking an Income Assistance Worker to help clients regain financial independence. The ministry provides financial supports and connects individuals to community services to meet basic needs and develop customized plans for long-term stability.

The ideal candidate is empathetic, organized, and adaptable, with strong communication skills and a client-centered approach. They work collaboratively with clients, families, and community organizations, treating all individuals with dignity and respect. The ability to manage conflict calmly and respectfully is essential.

Key qualifications include experience in case management, interviewing, assessing, planning, and referring services. Candidates should be comfortable working with diverse populations facing barriers such as mental illness, disability, addiction, and unemployment. Proficiency in mathematical calculations and computer applications is required. Typically, this knowledge is gained through post-secondary education in a human services field and relevant experience.

Responsibilities include assessing client needs, determining eligibility for income assistance, developing and adjusting case plans, and connecting clients to community resources. Work is conducted both in person and by phone using supportive counselling techniques.
