Church Caretaker Job Description
The Church Caretaker is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and upkeep of church building and grounds, ensuring a welcoming and functional environment for congregants, staff, and visitors. This role supports the mission and activities of the church by overseeing day-to-day maintenance, setting up for events, and performing essential tasks to keep the building and grounds in optimal condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Facility Maintenance: Clean and maintain all areas of the church, including the Sanctuary, Hall, Offices, Parlor, Youth Room, Restrooms, Storage Rooms and Kitchen. Clean, sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and empty trash as required.
- Grounds keeping: Care for outdoor areas such as lawns, gardens, parking lots, and walkways. Pick-up garbage, remove weeds and maintain landscaping.
- Minor Repairs: Perform basic repairs to fixtures, furniture, doors, windows, and equipment. Report major issues to the Church Facilities Convenor or Board Convenor. Be available to coordinate with professional contractors when necessary.
- Event Setup and Support: Arrange chairs, tables, audio/visual equipment, and other supplies for meetings, and special events. Restore rooms to original condition after events.
- Security: Be aware of the security of the building when working. Ensure all doors and windows are secured. Monitor for safety hazards. Respond to emergencies or alarm activations.
- Inventory and Supplies: Monitor cleaning and maintenance supplies, order and replenish stock as needed. Notify Office Administrator when additional items are ordered and if other supplies are needed.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Church staff, volunteers, and vendors to support Church operations and special projects.
