GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The nihtwiki/Birthing Lodge Director reports to the Lodge Board of Directors. They will work to lead and develop this newly funded free standing Birthing Lodge while creating and cultivating the Cree language and traditions, a culture of respect for diversity, and the creation of a culturally safe space for clients, midwives, staff, and Nation members. They work within the administrative policies and procedures established by the Sturgeon Lake Chief and Council, Client Bill of Rights and nihtwiki/Maternal Child Health program.
PURPOSE:
The nihtwiki/Birthing Lodge Executive Director:
provides overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of nihtwiki, staff, programming, safety, financial, human resources, and accountability.
ensures high quality client care which follows Sturgeon Lake First Nation traditional birthing law and all government legislation, regulations, and guidelines pertinent to the organizations role as a free-standing Health Facility, as an employer and as a non-profit agency, and with the College of Midwives Clinical Practice Parameters and Facilities Standards.
ensures nhiyaw delivery and Model of Care, considering approaches, protocols and teachings, is understood and adhered to by the program.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
Collaborate with healthcare professionals across pakitahaw skahikanihk (Sturgeon Lake First Nation) and outside the First Nation, health and social service sectors to ensure safe and competent service delivery.
Develop and foster relationships with family members as appropriate, being respectful of diverse health needs, wellness status, personal beliefs, and practices.
Provide Cree interpretation services as feasible or contact interpreters as needed.
Develop annual budget for presentation to and approval by the Board.
Monitor budgets each month and annually, report any concerns to Lodge Board of Directors.
