The Ministry of Social Services is seeking an Assistant Supervisor for the Child Protection team in Buffalo Narrows. This is a drive-in/drive-out position over a four-week rotation, working 11-hour days Monday through Saturday with scheduled days off. Travel time from home to Buffalo Narrows may be compensated, and staff housing may be provided.
We are looking for a candidate who demonstrates leadership through respect and empowerment, can coach and mentor staff, and provide guidance in the absence of the supervisor. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues, management, and caregivers, and act as a liaison with First Nations Child and Family Services and community agencies. You may represent the Ministry on committees and assist with service delivery across programs and partner agencies.
Candidates must have knowledge of child abuse, neglect, and domestic violence indicators, social work theories, and policy and practice in child and family services. Understanding multicultural beliefs and values, particularly First Nations and Mtis, is essential. Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are required.
Qualifications include a Bachelor of Social Work or Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work from an accredited university (approved by SASW/CASW or CASWE), several years of experience in Child Protection/Childrens Services within Child and Family programs, and experience supervising professional staff.
Responsibilities include implementing protective, preventative, and support programs for children, parents, and foster families using the Family Centred Case Management and PRIDE Models of Practice.
