Description

The Ministry of Firearms Secretariat is seeking a Firearms Lab Technician for the Saskatchewan Ballistics Lab in Saskatoon. This state-of-the-art forensic facility provides precise ballistic analysis and firearms examination to support law enforcement and the fair administration of justice. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, accountable, and able to thrive in a dynamic environment while maintaining strict evidentiary integrity. Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential for building collaborative relationships and handling complex situations.

Candidates should have knowledge of the Firearms Act, Criminal Code, and court processes, along with experience handling and identifying firearms. A background in forensic science, policing, investigations, or lab work is preferred, typically supported by a two-year diploma in Forensic Science or Justice. Key skills include firearm classification, operation of specialized lab equipment, and proficiency with databases and technical reporting. Conditions of employment include valid PAL and RPAL licenses, completion of Canadian Firearms Safety Courses, a valid drivers license, ability to obtain Special Constable status, and enhanced RCMP security clearance. The role requires physical ability to lift up to 25 kg and work in environments that may involve graphic material, travel, and variable hours.

Responsibilities include receiving and preparing firearms-related evidence, operating and maintaining advanced forensic instruments, compiling technical reports, and supporting expert testimony.
