Description

The Ministry of Highways is seeking a motivated Equipment Operator for the Biggar Section within the Operation and Maintenance Division. Join a team dedicated to operating and maintaining Saskatchewans transportation network of roads, highways, and airports. The Ministry offers a safe, integrated system that supports economic growth and prosperity for citizens, with safety as a core value.

We are looking for candidates with a valid Class 1A license and the ability to provide a current driver abstract if interviewed. You should be adaptable, self-motivated, and able to work in an inclusive environment. Strong situational awareness and decision-making skills in all weather conditions are essential, along with the ability to work under physically and mentally demanding circumstances.

Key qualifications include experience operating, servicing, and maintaining heavy equipment such as tandem trucks, motor graders, and front-end loaders. You must be able to handle advanced hydraulic control systems during snowstorms, maintain accurate daily records, and perform general maintenance activities to ensure public safety. Basic computer skills for email and timecard/expense submissions are required. Flexibility to work varied hours and contribute positively to a team is critical.

Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment for summer and winter maintenance, ensuring safe travel through surveillance and upkeep, and maintaining accurate logs. Physical labour, heavy lifting, and stressful situations are part of the role.
