Job Summary:
The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all individuals accessing the Warming Shelter. This role monitors the shelter grounds, supports staff during incidents, and helps maintain a calm atmosphere while upholding community policies and safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
?    Monitor the interior and exterior of the Warming Shelter Bus.
?    Greet and screen individuals entering the shelter, following established protocols.
?    De-escalate conflicts or disruptive behaviour in a respectful, non-aggressive manner.
?    Assist staff during emergencies, incidents, or medical situations.
?    Maintain accurate incident reports and communicate concerns to the Warming Shelter Coordinator.
?    Work collaboratively with Warming Shelter staff and local emergency responders when needed.
?    Uphold confidentiality, professional boundaries, and trauma-informed approaches.

Qualifications and Requirements:
?    Security training or related experience (security certification is an asset).
?    Naloxone/Narcan training required or willingness to complete upon hire.
?    Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
?    Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations.
?    Experience working with vulnerable populations.
?    Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and in cold-weather conditions.
?    Must pass a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
?    Valid First Aid/CPR is an asset.

Work Conditions:
?    Indoor and outdoor work in winter conditions.
?    Exposure to crisis situations and unpredictable behaviours.
?    Requires standing, walking, and conducting regular patrols.
