General Accountability:
The First Nations and Mtis Patient Navigator is a critical part of the cancer care team, serving as the primary patient/advocate and liaison. This role is responsible for the coordination and delivery of non-medical services to patients identifying as First Nations and/or Mtis and requesting culturally appropriate advocacy and support through their cancer treatment journey.

In collaboration with health system partners, clinicians and community partners, the Navigator supports the patient as part of the cancer care team. This role also serves as an education/liaison resource for the cancer care team to better understand community and cultural resources.

Qualifications:

Education:
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a degree in a health or social sciences related discipline, and three (3) years recent related experience working in Indigenous healthcare.
Education in Indigenous studies and/or through an Indigenous Educational faculty is considered an asset

Membership:
General requirement for membership in the appropriate professional association

Knowledge and Experience:
3 years working in applied health care or social service delivery
3 years working with First Nations and Mtis communities
Demonstrated leadership in patient advocacy, patient education and program development and evaluation
