Description

The Employment Advisor program assists newcomers find employment, gain employment skills, creating resumes, cover letters, interview skills, and helps in their credential assessment and recognition process.
This position involves:
o Providing support to newcomers entering the work force, including:
- skilled workers hoping to find employment in related fields of prior learning or experience, and
- internationally-trained professionals seeking to achieve accreditation in their fields of expertise.  
o Providing support to employers and conducting cultural awareness programs in the workplace.
o Providing opportunities for skills development on career enhancement and community engagement
o Facilitating increased confidence and social well being among clients and the community

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Providing employment assessment and assistance to newcomers in developing an employment or career plan
2. Developing and delivering cultural diversity in the workplace training
3. Liaising and working with employers, relevant agencies, and organizations in the community
4. Creating welcoming communities by organizing various programs and activities.
5. Collaborating with organizations to provide opportunities for newcomers to participate in the community.
6. Organizing and facilitating workshops and learning circles
7. Writing process documents, developing manuals and brochures, as required
8. Seeking potential funding sources, conducting research, and grant proposal writing
9. Increase the community's awareness of newcomers needs and contributions.
10. Provide support to organizations that enhance their ability to serve newcomers and foster a welcoming community.
11. Recruiting,  training,  and providing ongoing support for volunteers
12. Performing general office duties, as required
13. Record keeping and reporting

Hours: 28 hours per week
