Description

Objectives of the BTC Justice Program:

Liaison between Indigenous and Non Indigenous accused and criminal justice personnel, to help over come
communication barriers and reduce aboriginal alienation.

This includes advocating for the accused and maintaining communication and collaboration with criminal justice personnel (ex.....lawyers, police, the judiciary, probation/parole officers) at all stages.

Helping the client/accused speak for themselves before the court and with various justice system personnel.

This may also include providing appropriate information to the court.



Qualifications

Good communication skills both written and oral to present to the court and community groups

Self motivated, able to rise to the challenge of the position.

Able to work with little or no supervision.

Able to use a computer for word processing data base, email, reporting, presentations, etc.

Involved in the community and able to maintain a network of community resources so they can assist clients and follow up.

Able to plan work and identify other skills required.

A drivers license and willingness to travel is mandatory.

Knowledge of and sensitivity towards aboriginal cultures.

Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Must Provide a Criminal Record check (CPIC) at time of interview .


Educational Requirements:

Experience in the Justice field.
A diploma or degree from an accredited Justice program or the equivalent is an asset.
