The daycare cook is responsible for preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children in our 50 space child care centre. This role focuses on child nutrition, food safety, and creating age-appropriate meals for children ages 18 months to 6 years.
Main Responsibilities:
Planning and preparing breakfast, lunch, and snacks that meet children's nutritional needs and follow government nutrition guidelines. May need to accommodate various dietary restrictions, food allergies, and cultural preferences, maintain detailed meal records and documentation for licensing, and ensure all food is age-appropriate in texture and portion size for different age groups.
The cook will maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen following strict health codes, orders and will manage food inventory and supplies, and may interact with parents about children's dietary needs or restrictions.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
Knowledge of child nutrition and dietary guidelines, understanding of food allergies and how to prevent cross-contamination, food handler's certification, ability to plan balanced, child-friendly menus, patience and understanding of children's eating habits, and experience with institutional cooking for groups.
