As part of the Department of Public Works and Utilities, the City of Humboldt is currently seeking to fill one (1) permanent, full-time Utility Operator. This position is responsible for ensuring safe potable water delivery and operating wastewater conveyance and treatment facilities.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of water and wastewater systems, familiarity with repair techniques and strong written and verbal communication skills. Applicants must be physically capable of tasks such as working in confined spaces, repairing water/sewer mains, replacing services, and operating valves. The ability to work independently or as part of team, follow direction, stay calm under pressure, and maintain a positive and cooperative attitude.
This role involves operating City equipment and tools, applying mechanical principles, and assisting with water/sewer excavations, road construction, and general duties. Employees are responsible for promoting and following the City's safety program.
Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D)
Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Drivers License with satisfactory Drivers Abstract
Saskatchewan Operator Certification: WD-2, WWT2, WWC2 experience is preferred
WHMIS, Ground Disturbance, Traffic Control/Flagging, and Rigging training are assets
Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Compensation
This is an in-scope position under CUPE Local 2359. Starting rate of pay ranges from $26.65 to $32.14 per hour (2025 rate) depending on qualifications
Employees are eligible for the 9% employer matched defined pension plan, annual paid vacation days, and a comprehensive health and wellness plan
General work hours are MondayFriday, 8:00am - 5:00pm with a 1-hour lunch but may require some variable scheduling including evenings and weekends
Once all requirements are met, on-call participation is expected and is a shared responsibility throughout the department with 4 to 6 weeks on-call per year
